Professor Steger leads IMD’s research on complexity, corporate sustainability, and global corporate governance. He has directed various top management programs (e.g. for DaimlerChrysler, Allianz, Yukos) and the Board Program at IMD. His main current involvement is with Board Programs for the Malaysian Academy of Directors and similar events around the world.
Professor Steger has served on supervisory boards for several major companies and organizations in Germany, Switzerland, and the UK since 1983, as Chairman, Vice Chairman, or Member. He was also Member of the Managing Board of Volkswagen. Before that he was a professor at the European Business School (Oestrich-Winkel/Rhg.) and a Minister of Economics and Technology in the German state of Hesse and in the German Federal Parliament.
He is the author of numerous publications, with his books and articles having been translated into more than 10 languages. His books include Corporate Diplomacy (2003), Mastering Global Corporate Governance (2004), The Business of Sustainability (2004), Managing Complex Mergers (2005), Inside the mind of stakeholders (2006), Managing Complexity in Global Organizations (2007), Corporate Governance - Concepts and Cases (early 2008).#
Professor Steger holds a PhD in Mathematical Growth Theory from Ruhr University. He also served three years in the German Armed Forces as a parachute ranger.
